Escuela Waldorf Micael (Aguadilla, PR) – Ballet Program

Dancing in a Yurt Beats Dancing in the Dirt

On the outskirts of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, nestled within the serene grounds of Escuela Waldorf Micael, Trifecta Arts embarked on a transformative journey. From September 2021 to May 2022, they brought the beauty of ballet to a small elementary school, nestled within the confines of yurts. The Waldorf-based principles of Escuela Waldorf Micael provided the perfect backdrop, fostering an environment of creativity, holistic learning, and community engagement. For these children, dancing in a yurt became more than just a novelty; it symbolized a sanctuary where their dreams could take flight amidst the disruption that the Covid-19 pandemic had brought to their daily lives.

The classrooms were far from conventional, but within those circular walls, a profound sense of dedication and resilience flourished. Despite their unique surroundings, the students approached each Friday’s ballet class with unwavering enthusiasm. The program catered to two age groups – the first-grade class was composed of seven little dudes and one lucky lady, while the second and third grade group was a dozen giggling girls and one fearless boy. The students looked forward to Fridays each week, where they had the chance to show off their best pliés and learn new ballet moves.

At the helm of this artistic endeavor stood Anne Koho, the visionary founder of Trifecta Arts, who brought a wealth of experience and passion to the program. Her commitment to empowering young minds through dance had taken her across the globe, from Ecuador to India and now to Puerto Rico.

As they took their final classes within the confines of the yurts, the impact of their journey reverberated far beyond those makeshift dance floors. Trifecta Arts had not only introduced these children to the art of ballet but had also instilled within them a sense of confidence and possibility for the future. In a world where opportunities are often scarce, dancing became a powerful symbol of resilience and hope for these young dancers.
