The Spring Dance Workshop, a collaborative effort between The Jane Stern Dorado Community Library and Trifecta Arts, breathed new life into the community of Dorado over four transformative days in April 2023. The workshop welcomed guest teachers from Minnesota whose roots in dance run deep. Two sisters, Jenny Roth and Missy Goers, who grew up honing their craft at the Summit School of Dance under the guidance of their mother, and who have more than 50 years combined teaching experience, brought their passion and expertise to the classroom. Jenny’s specialization in teaching young children and Missy’s adeptness in jazz and lyrical dance styles catered to a diverse range of participants, nurturing budding talents and fostering a love for movement.
Anne Koho, the founder of Trifecta Arts, added her touch of grace and precision to the workshop, teaching the ballet segment with unwavering discipline. Despite most students being new to the world of dance, their enthusiasm knew no bounds as they eagerly soaked up every minute of the ninety-minute classes each afternoon. In a community still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona, the free dance classes provided a much-needed outlet for young children, offering a reprieve from the challenges they faced and a space to express themselves freely.
On the fourth day, anticipation filled the air as families gathered for the culminating presentation, a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers. With hearts pounding and smiles lighting up their faces, the children took their places to showcase their newfound skills, leaving their families in awe of their progress. The closing ceremony, marked by the distribution of certificates to each participant, was a celebration of resilience and community spirit, echoing with heartfelt expressions of gratitude and joy. In the wake of adversity, the Spring Dance Workshop emerged as a beacon of hope, uniting the community in a shared love for dance and providing a pathway to healing and renewal.
