Hold on to your tutus and tiaras, because the Jane Stern Dorado Community Library just got a little more active! That’s right, since January 2022, the library has been hosting free ballet classes for kids, and let me tell you, it’s been an absolute blast. Trifecta Arts, a non-profit organization that promotes arts education in underprivileged communities worldwide, has been sponsoring these classes for kids aged 7-13.
Anne Koho, the founder of Trifecta Arts, is not just your average ballet instructor. She’s a retired businesswoman who was trained as a professional ballerina and has taught for over 20 years. She uses a mix of Spanish, English, and of course, French ballet terminology to communicate with the students. And for those who only speak Spanish, she uses some hilarious pantomime to get the point across. It’s like watching a game of charades mixed with ballet, and it’s a riot to see.
These ballet classes aren’t just about learning new moves; they’re about developing self-confidence, discipline, and focus in the students, offering an excellent opportunity for children in the community to learn a new skill and to engage with the arts. Moreover, they provide an outlet for physical activity, which is especially important in the era of video games and smartphones.
And did I mention it’s all free? That’s right, free ballet classes, leotards and ballet slippers are available for kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in such activities. That means any kid in the community can come and learn some ballet without breaking the bank. And who knows, maybe some of these children will discover a passion for dance that they never knew they had. So let’s give a round of applause to the Jane Stern Dorado Community Library for partnering with Trifecta Arts to bring some dance magic to the community!
